Towards Realistic Pedestrian Route Planning

چکیده
Pedestrian routing has its specific set of challenges, which are often neglected by state-of-theart route planners. For instance, the lack of detailed sidewalk data and the inability to traverse plazas and parks in a natural way often leads to unappealing and suboptimal routes. In this work, we first propose to augment the network by generating sidewalks based on the street geometry and adding edges for routing over plazas and squares. Using this and further information, our query algorithm seamlessly handles node-to-node queries and queries whose origin or destination is an arbitrary location on a plaza or inside a park. Our experiments show that we are able to compute appealing pedestrian routes at negligible overhead over standard routing algorithms. 1998 ACM Subject Classification G.2.2 Graph Theory, G.2.3 Applications, H.2.8 Database Applications, I.3.5 Computational Geometry and Object Modeling

Pedestrian Route Planning based on an Enhanced Representation of Pedestrian Network and Probabilistic Estimate of Signal Delays
The paper proposes an enhanced representation of the pedestrian network that provides benefits for pedestrian route planning over a network representation that is used by a majority of existing route planning services. The pedestrian network is represented in the proposed methodology by pavements and crossings between them. Route planning is based on the travel time derived from distance and av...
متن کاملTowards a Classification of Route Selection Criteria for Route Planning Tools
Route planners are tools that support the navigator in selecting the best route between two locations. Solving a route choice problem involves sorting and ranking of alternatives according to underlying evaluation criteria and decision rules. Using an appropriate classification of route selection criteria in the user interface is an important ingredient for user friendly route planners. The pap...
متن کاملWalkway Network Building for Multi-modal Route Planning
Most of public travel information services nowadays are limited to the driving navigation or bus/subway guidance. Practical needs for pedestrian navigation yet haven’t got met enough and usually result in unacceptable travel route planning. This paper presents an approach on building Walkway network with different map layers for pedestrian specified facilities, and then implements pedestrian ai...
متن کاملEfficient Computation of Jogging Routes
We study the problem of computing jogging (running) routes in pedestrian networks: Given source vertex s and length L, it asks for a cycle (containing s) that approximates L while considering niceness criteria such as the surrounding area, shape of the route, and its complexity. Unfortunately, computing such routes is NP-hard, even if the only optimization goal is length. We therefore propose t...
متن کاملRealistic Human Walking Paths
Pedestrian navigation is a complex function of human dynamics, a desired destination, and the presence of obstacles. People cannot stop and start instantaneously and their turning abilities are influenced by kinematic and dynamical constraints. A realistic model of human walking paths is an important development for entertainment applications and many classes of simulations. We present a novel ...
